BAKER, 1991 thru present XL & Buell 6
Speed Transmission Kits.
The
centerpiece of the new " BAKER " product line is the long-awaited
Sportster/Buell Six-Speed Overdrive, named the XL6 Conversion
Kit. Like the BAKER Six-Speed Over-drive for Big Twins, the XL6
features full width gears for uncompromised torque capacity
and strength. BAKER also developed a new shift drum and detent
plate with improved geometries for smoother and more precise
shifting.
The new Baker XL6 is a six-speed overdrive 'cartridge style' gearset that converts any existing 1991 - up Sportster or Buell to a BAKER six speed. 2nd through 5th gear ratios are effectively the same as stock, 6th gear is a true overdrive. Functional benefits of the XL6 are:
Over a 500 RPM drop in the top-gear cruising RPM at 75 MPH
Reduced vibration
Improved fuel economy
Reduced wear and tear on the engine
Smoother shifting and improved neutral finding
The gears and shafts are made by Andrews products to BAKER specifications. Stock gear widths in 1st through 5th have been retained and a beefy 6th gear was added. This was accomplished by utilizing an exclusive BAKER dog tooth design that is an industry first for American motorcycles. The gear ratio comparison can be seen below.
KITS INCLUDE - NOTE: optional reverse shifting drum at no charge with any XL6 kit, or available separately.
Complete gearset including shafts and gears, less the 5th (maindrive) gear pair. Gearset is assembled to the trap door including bearings, ball bearings, thrust washers and retaining rings.
6061-T6 trap door
Shift drum and detent plate with optimized geometry. No flimsy retaining clip to hold the detent plate to the drum; the XL6 kit is bolted on with a machine screw.
